Looking for a sunny lazy getaway, or do you prefer more activity on a snowboard in snowy mountains? Everything is possible. Barcelona is situated just 60 kilometres from the beaches of Costa Brava and about 150 kilometres from the ski resorts in Pyrenees.
The easiest places to reach, are the coast and the capitals of the provinces Girona, Tarragona and Lleida.
Although the Costa Brava is orientated on mass tourism and full of tourist trash, it kept some quiet and beautiful treasures, such as Cadaques and Sant Feliu d`Guixols. Surrounded by city walls, medieval Girona with pastel tenement houses, towered along the river, is a nice place to spend day rambling in an old part of the city. The best time to visit Girona is during the yearly ‘La semana de las flores’ (The Flower`s week), when the city is full with unusual flower compositions.
On the way to Lleida, just 40 kilometres north-west from Barcelona, you can find Montserrat, one of the most aberrant natural formations in Spain. With peculiarly shaped rocks, ruined caves of hermits and the monastery, Montserrat is definitely worth a visit.
The most famous attraction of the community of Catalonia, with no doubt is the Salvador Dali Museum in Figueres, a small inland town. The collection doesn’t include the most famous exhibits, but still makes an uncommon impression, likewise the building that houses the museum.
