Gipuzkoa, the province of which San Sebastian is capital, is the smallest one in Spain. Short distances along with an efficient public transport make almost every interesting place around San Sebastain accesible during one-day trip.
The area is known as a real mainstay of basque culture, tradition and language. The historical, tradicional buildings and houses can be found almost in every city and town of the province. For sure you won`t regred visiting medieval Tolosa hosting tradicional carnaval in February, Orduna, the home for the oldest basque University and museum of Eduardo Chillida in Hernani. For every gourmand obligatory destination are fishinng villages along the basque coast where one of the best bivalves and fishes are served.
In two hours you can reach Bilbao, the capital of other basque community Vizcaya, with its amazing modern Guggenheim Museum and masterpieces of world most famous painters Picasso, Chagall, Warhol, Rausenberg and many others. The exhibition however gives way to the building itself. The cubistic sculpture with its curved and bent forms covered in titanium designed by Frank O. Gehry is a showcase of the city.
