Besides from beautiful beach La Concha, Jazz and Film Festivals San Sebastian, called by locals Donostia, has also a lot of places of interest. Almost all main monuments are in the old quarter of the city. The center of the Parte Vieja is commonly known as La Consti Plaza de la Constitucion, an ancient bullring. You will find here also the 18th century basilica Santa Maria with beautiful baroque facade and austere gothic church San Vincente from 16th century. Just behind San Vincente, in a gallery of the ancient convent, you will find Museo de San Telmo – the ethnographical exhibition about Basques.
The beautiful panoramic view of San Sebastian can can be enjoyed from two hills Monte Urgull with the huge sculpture of Jesus Christ and Monte Igeldo. Passing the Monte Igeldo you will reach impressive sculpture El Peine de los Vientos by Eduardo Chillida.
Other must point on your turistic plan is port also called “muelle” or “kaia”. Fishery was always one of the most important parts of the San Sebastian`s tradition. While trying some local dainties like “karrakela”- sea snails or “kiskilla”- shrimps discover the history of Mari – the local hero eternized in a monument on the warth. The lazy walk in the afternoon is a great opportunity to see the real port life with seafood sellers and women fixing fishing nets.
To feel a little bit of luxuery you can go for a walk to the la Diplomatica, the quarter in the neighbourhood of Ondarreta beach, where rich “familias madrileñas” build gorgeouse residences. Among them you will find former royal summer villa Palacio de Miramar.
