City of VALENCIA

The province of Valencia is an area where the past interlaces with the present, the beauty and richness of the huertas`(garden) landscape with wildness and rigidity. Lush orange and lemon groves and plantations of date palms mingle with rice-fields where the same irrigation system invented by the Moors centuries ago is still in use today.

Valencia, the capital of the region of the same name, is located on Spain's eastern Mediterranean coast, on the Gulf of Valencia at the mouth of the Turia River. It is the third largest city in Spain, one of the most densely populated, and among the liveliest on the Iberian Peninsula. During the last two decades Valencia became an important industrial, commercial and financial center, every year attracting more and more investors. It is also home to vanguard design and modern art, and a frequent host to international fairs and conventions.

Valencia isn’t the most popular tourist resort, although it does have some beautiful, long sandy beaches such as La Malvarrosa and Levante, with more than a few places to sunbathe, dine, and enjoy the lovely summer weather.

Valencia is also a city of contradictions. While strolling through her wide, tree-lined lanes you discover the plurality and evolution of a city where ancient historical buildings and modern architecture stand side by side. The old quarter is full of religious temples: Gothic, Barroque and Modernist monuments. The port city is also the home of a variety of renowned museums such as the vanguard design of La Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias and the Conference Palace.

Valencia is also home to one of the heavyweights of Spanish cuisine: “paella valenciana”. Also typical in this region is the tiger-nut milkshake “horchata”.

Another absolutely amazing and culturally rich experience to be had in the Valenica Region is Las Fallas, the unique fiesta of Saint Joseph. The festival lasts 5 days and is definitely an overwhelming experience. Here you have an opportunity to admire "la Cremá"- the solemn burning of massive sculptures of plaster and wood. Each monumental statue is a tower of malicious criticism and sarcasm, satirizing anything from sports to international politics.
